Chocolate Caramel Tart for Mother’s Day

by CelinesCuisine on May 9, 2012

Chocolate is wonderful. Nothing can please me more than a cake, ice cream, drink, or cookie made with chocolate. But for me it has to be made with real chocolate — rich and dark semi-sweet or bittersweet chocolate. Trader Joe’s has wonderful dark chocolate choices — from smooth and silky Valrhona to semi-sweet chips to their famous gigantic Pound Plus Belgian chocolate bar. On Mother’s Day, calories don’t count and indulgence is encouraged — this chocolate tart is the perfect, decadent finish to a delicious meal. Read More »

Healthy Huevos and other Fiesta Favorites

by SusanGreeley on May 4, 2012

I confess I did not know the reason for celebrating “Cinco de Mayo” until I googled it. It’s the day the Mexicans kicked some French butt and prevented us from eating Napoleons on this day.

Growing up in the Midwest, I don’t remember ever celebrating “Cinco de Mayo” or even knowing what it was.  Does it count that in my early teens my friends and I loved to go to Chi-Chis to chow down on baskets of nachos with salsa and drink virgin margaritas?!  (Thankfully Tex-Mex food has come a long way since then…) Read More »

Tartiflette is a modern French dish based on the traditional gratin made with potatoes and melted cheese.  If you’re looking for warm comfort food to enjoy on chilly evenings, look no further than this inexpensive and satisfying one-pot meal.  This dish is from the Haute-Savoie  French Alps Valley and  is a simple and hearty combination of potato, bacon, onion, and cheese.   Click here for my recipe.  For the last couple of decades,  it has became a staple winter dish in French kitchens. Chocolate Almond Kisses

by Wona Miniati on March 7, 2012

Recipe credit: Wanda's Pie in the Sky

I’m quite certain the recipe I am about to share with you makes one of the best chocolate cookies in the world. EVER! I was introduced to this sensational cookie by my dear foodie friends Andres & Nancy, who discovered it while living in Toronto. They frequented a lovely bakery there called Wanda’s Pie in the Sky, and there they found this treasure. I emailed Wanda and she graciously granted permission to reprint her recipe.

This cookie is crisp on the outside, chewy moist on the inside, and utterly irresistible. And if you have gluten-free friends or family members, they will leap for joy to learn this cookie is gluten-free! Read More »

Valentine’s Day is just a few days away and having dinner en tête à tête (one-on-one) with your loved one in a restaurant on Valentine’s day is certainly a romantic idea, but if the restaurant is packed, the service sub par, the food cold and overpriced, this could end up not being romantic at all… ...

I recently had a chance to interview Zach Stafford, college cook extraordinaire, about cooking in small spaces.  Whether a dorm room, a studio, or even temporary digs in a hotel ...
